THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES....

It is the dawn of a new era; the Emperor is dead, destroyed together with his Death Star above the sanctuary moon of Endor. The War is however not yet over. While the Imperial Navy has suffered enormous losses, it is far from being defeated. On Coruscant the power struggle is in full progress to decide who shall take Emperor Palpatines now vacant place.

Although that battle is fierce, everyone knows that the real power struggle is taking place in the sky above them, as the remainder of the Imperial Navy is regrouping while the Rebel Alliance ships constantly harass them. Both Navies know that winning even the smallest skirmish may shift the advantage to either side.

The Rebels, still outnumbered but growing each day, have recently inflicted serious damage to the Imperial war machine by destroying one of the few TIE Avenger production plants left. The Alliance Navy, desperately short of starships, still relies heavily on the performance of its individual starfighter squadrons.

While the front-line squadrons are harassing the main Imperial fleet, support squadrons like Blue and the recently formed Wolfshead squadron are assuming the role of 'fire fighters', guarding the flanks of newly reclaimed Alliance space. Little do they know that the Empire has already developed a new weapon, ready to send in to the war zone...

Somewhere in space:

"Mayday, mayday, mayday!!! This is Blue Flight 2, Blue Flight 2 requesting assistance! Is anyone out there??? We're under attack by Imperial Gunboats. Two of my X-Wings have already been disabled!! Mayday. Anyone, answer, please!"

"Blue Flight 2, this is Wolfshead 15, go ahead", Sparks replied over the A-Wing's comm link.

A weak and distorted reply was trying to get through but the interference was just too great. "Wolfshead 1..." ....ssss.... "thi..." ...ssss...."we'r...." crackle........

"Blue Flight 2, Blue Flight 2, this is Wolfshead 15, do you copy?"

Nothing but silence came back over the radio. "Blue Flight 2, do you copy, over?"

Nothing.

A transmission from the WolfsDen broke that silence. "Wolfshead 15 this is the WolfsDen. We just picked up a distress call from Blue Fight 2. Did you get any of the message?"

"I got the initial call, but only static afterwards."

"Copy that Wolfhead 15. Standby, we've located where the transmission originated from and are downloading jump cooridinates now. Be prepared to hyper-out. We are launching Wolfshead 10, and you and Solo are to get to the area asap and report back all information. Protect Fight 2 if they're under attack by those Gunboats. Looks like this area we're in isn't so quiet after all."

"Roger, WolfsDen. Just another day on the farm."

Meanwhile, aboard the ASD HappyJack:

Klaxons sounded loud and long onboard the HappyJack, Blue Squadron's mothership. "All pilots to the ready room, all pilots to the ready room. This is not a drill.", came blasting over the p.a.

Everyone was scrambling to their duty stations, getting ready for whatever was about outside the ship.

Groznik, Blue Squadron Leader, came out of the radio room with a message in hand, barely missing another crew member as he ran to get to his assigned station. "Sorry, sir.", came the startled cry from the crewmember.

"Carry on, on the double." was the frantic response. Fortunately for everyone having a universal translating device, no one had heard the loud roar that Wookies make when they get startled. Something like the tornado wind scream and a Banshee wail at the same time, all rolled into one sound. And you never want to startle a Wookie. Ever.

The crewman continued his hurried pace down the corridor, glancing back over his shoulder at the Wookie, nearly colliding with another crew member.

But there was no time to spare, and Groz was already heading down another passageway toward the pilots ready room.

Entering the room, all the pilots that had made it there snapped to attention, but there was little time for formalities. "Listen up! One of our X-Wing patrols has fallen under attack by the Imperials. It appears they have been disabled, and not destroyed! I don't know what the Empire is up to this time, but A-Wings from Wolfshead squadron have been sent in to investigate. It's going to take us some time to get to that location, so I want CorranBoat, Wedge, and Sabrewolf to man their X-Wings now. Once we leave hyperspace, launch immediately from the hanger. We'll be sending rescue craft out right behind you. Now, move it!"

[Inside the Happy Jack hangar]

The sound of cheers was deafening as the rescued Blue squadron pilots walked out of the freighter, waving happily at the gathered Alliance personnel. It was louder still in the Missing Bar later when Groznik, Blue leader, declared the drinks to be "on the house". After weeks of intense action and working under pressure, it was time to "let some steam off", as Foxfire put it. They all knew this wasn't the last time they would have to confront the "Victorious" or the "Stjimsenka'at", but right now they had 36 hours of free time to spend until the next briefing!

[Blue squadron briefing room, on board the Happy Jack]

The pilots filed into the large room, some obviously still suffering from bad hangovers. The Blue and Wolfshead squadron commanders were already standing by the podium together with the captains of the Wolfs Den and the Happy Jack.

Foxfire looked up from the datapad in front of her,

"Glad you all made it back from the missing bar!", the comment drew some laughters from the crowd, but the voices soon quieted down. Groznik gestured Foxfire to continue,
"Although we have had quite some success in crossing the plans of the Empire during these last operations, there is still a major threat to us, to all of the Alliance, out there: the Stjimsenka'at! Admiral, please continue..."

Behind the podium, a door had opened and at the sight of the Mon Calamari admiral, the whole assembly rose to attention.

"Thank you Commander." Admiral Ackbar continued, turning to the audience, "As you were! Please sit down..." He waited until the assembly had settled down again.

"The defection of the Mon Calamari cruiser is a very serious matter indeed, the Stjimsenka'at carries highly sensitive information; location of bases, names and coordinates of alliance operatives, slicing equipment, data on alliance technology. You get the picture... However, intelligence had planted an operative on the cruiser together with the pilot from Wolfshead squadron, he was able to prevent the cruiser from transmitting any information by disabling her data retreival systems. Unfortunately this blew his cover and he was killed." The admiral sighed, "The bastards recorded the murder and sent the holo to us."

Groznik activated the holoprojector, an image of a Mon Calamari cruiser and an ISD appeared, orbiting a non-descript planet. Both ships showed imperial IFF codes, several smaller red icons appeared around the two starships, and admiral Ackbar continued:

"There are still loyal alliance personnel on the cruiser, they have been able to communicate with us these last days, and together with the information gathered by pilots from Blue and Wolfshead squadrons we now have a plan of action. The "Victorious" and the "Stjimsenka'at" are preparing to leave this sector, we assume they intend to come under the protection of a major imperial base ASAP to restore the data banks in peace. We must prevent this from happening."

The image zoomed in on the cruiser, revealing the smaller icons to be hostile alliance starfighters.

"We have analyzed the operation carefully and have concluded that the greatest threat to our success comes from the defected rebel starfighters, especially the X-Wings. They must be eliminated!"

The map zoomed out again, now showing a few green dots on the fringe of the map.

"Wolfshead squadron will initiate the attack on the cruiser, B-Wings and A-Wings will take on the Stjimsenka'at and her fighters..."
