Description:

One of the older fighters in service, the Y-Wing makes a rugged complement to the newer X-Wing. Many people are quick to discount the Y-Wing as too slow and too old for useful service, citing the fact that only one Y-Wing returned from the Battle of Yavin. What they do not mention is that only two X-Wings returned, one badly damaged and the other flown by a Jedi Knight. While the Y-Wings comparative slow speed and poor maneuverability hamper it's dogfighting capability, its heavy shields, ion cannons and load of eight torpedoes make it an excellent bomber and capship killer. While it is planned to be replaced by the newer B-Wing, many B-Wing pilots have returned to the Y-Wing due to it's far greater stability and its super accurate laser mountings.
